What We Test, and Why It Matters
Testosterone deficiency is diagnosed on symptoms and confirmed bloodwork together — never on a single number, and never on symptoms alone. These are the markers that inform the decision.
Total and free testosterone
Total testosterone alone can look acceptable while free testosterone — the fraction actually available to your tissues — sits well below where it should be. This is the most common reason men are told they are fine when they are not.
SHBG
Sex hormone-binding globulin determines how much of your testosterone is bound and unavailable. Without it, a total testosterone result is difficult to interpret meaningfully.
Estradiol
